Exopods is a playful examination of the architectural form of exoskeletal creatures, such as insects, arachnids, and crustations, referencing parts of their anatomy, whilst exploring the materiality of paper-card, to produce various fantastical sculptural interpretations.

Each exopod’s form emerges through a combination of conscious decisions, such as choosing a specific section of an insect’s body as reference to appropriate (the shape and appearance of an abdomen, thorax or antenna for example), and subliminal influences, which seem to promote the sculptures taking on a life of their own during the making process, transforming via loose experimentation and material exploration into their final appearances.

The sculptures have been photographed, situated in a selected area of a room in my own home, paying particular attention to their interaction with the room’s geometry and the interplay of light and shadow to capture various compositions and contrasting atmospheres.
