East Asian Women Artist Community (EAWAC) is organized by women of color from east asian diaspora, coming together under the commonality of not wanting to exist in the given paradigm. Pursuing art career in London, we have acknowledged significant under-representation of East Asian women artists especially when contrasted with the escalating consumption and familiarisation of our culture. Through this community, we aim to actively navigate a common ground and dismantle the framework withholding us by resource sharing, cross-cultural learning, and regular discussions.
On 21st and 28th April, we will gather in Banqueting Hall at Chelsea for the activity “Conscious- Raising Rules”. In these two sessions, we will let each person talk for 15mins to share our experiences of being an Asian woman artist living in the UK, the problems of feminism in Asia, how we feel about other women, and so on. In the future, we intend to organise more events and publish our thoughts on zines after those discussions.
